Every month is a different civic engagement topic—we recommend you attend all that you are able, not just the topics that interest you. Each session is crafted with a local expert and features a guest speaker (educate) + real task (activate) around the topic. 

 

Writing Letters

Wednesday, December 7th, 2016

Featuring Kristina LaPlant, Political Science PhD Candidate at Georgia State University. We learned about the efficacy of writing letters to our representatives, and then wrote 180+ letters to members of the electoral college that were mailed the next day.

Calling Your Rep

Wednesday, January 11th, 2017

At this meeting we got to learn from William Perry, former ED of Common Cause Georgia and current ED of Georgia Ethics Watchdogs on the importance of actually calling your rep on the phone. We then practiced calling with each other, and left voicemails for the reps to hear the next day.

Citizen Lobbying

Thursday, February 2nd, 2017

We worked with Jeff Graham, Executive Director of Georgia Equality and vocal opponent of Georgia's RFRA legislation, to craft 2-minute pieces of public commentary to give at committee meetings. We then nominated people from each group to give their public commentary.

Message Training

Tuesday, March 21st, 2017

Staci Fox, CEO of Planned Parenthood, worked with us on message training and how to effectively communicate about topics that might be tough.
